LOCAL labor rights group, General Alliance of Workers Association (Gawa), has lauded Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III for opposing the "no vaccination, no work" policy being proposed by several private and government individuals.
Wennie Sancho, Gawa secretary-general, said they are happy with Bello's pronouncements that the proposal was unconstitutional, however, he commented that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) should release a categorical statement to fully inform the public.
Sancho said the national government should also release a comment clarifying to everyone that the "no vaccination, no work" proposal is not a policy.
Meanwhile, Sancho also lauded the recent arrival of vaccines and its formal vaccination launch Friday, March 5, 2021.
According to him, with the program now in full swing, he is hoping that the country's economy will start recovering faster, as people start going out more and consumer spending starts to rise.
He is also hoping that the recent launch of the vaccination program will further encourage and boost the confidence of businesses to start reopening and allowing their respective employees to return to work.
He added the key to recovering the country's economy lies in the hands of those in the labor sector.
