BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya said Tuesday, March 9, that there is now an ongoing construction of the three satellite markets in the city.
These include the renovation of villages Granada and Sum-ag markets, and the construction of Banago village public market.
Gasataya said the National Government allotted about P140 million for the improvement and construction of the three satellite markets.
He said in Barangay Sum-ag, they will construct a two-story building with a parking area for the economic enterprise of said barangay.
"We want to renovate and to have more satellite markets to decongest the Burgos, Libertad and Central public markets and to help the economy of the barangays," he added.
More than 150 vendors from villages Granada and Sum-ag were affected by the construction and all of them were temporarily transferred outside the markets.
Gasataya said in Barangay Banago, no vendors were affected by the construction because they don't have an existing public market.
The projects were implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPHW).
For his part, Executive Ernesto Pineda, cluster head on markets, said it's up to the barangay officials to find a specific location to temporarily transfer the affected vendors within their barangays.
After the completion of the projects, he said the vendors will go back inside the public markets.
Meanwhile, Gastaya said the national government also allocated a budget for the road construction that will connect Barangay Alangilan to Barangay Alegria, Murcia.
"This was requested to us two years ago and we are hopeful that it will be completed this year. A couple of years ago, we also proposed for the construction of road in Barangay Granada which connected to Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City," he said.
