THE City Government of San Fernando, in collaboration with different organizations, celebrated on March 8 the International Women's Day with various programs and activities.

Among the highlights of the programs is the plan to immunize 100 women with 200 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by the Soroptimist International of Pampanga led by Federation Director Leticia Yap.

"This will not only improve the lives of girls and women; this will also save their lives and their family. At inaasahan namin na makakatulong ito sa efforts ng LGU para labanan ang sakit na Covid-19. Kaya sa mga kababaihan, huwag po tayong matatakot magpabakuna, kasi kailangan natin ito," Yap said.

Soroptimist International is a women's organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

Meanwhile, PrimeWater and the City of San Fernando Water District (CSFWD) also committed to provide sustainable livelihood for the empowerment of women in the form of a water refilling station for the beneficiaries of Northville Resettlement.

"Ngayong taong ito, March 7 to be specific, is the 44th anniversary ng water district and bilang celebration, we decided to create projects that will help and empower women which also form part of our gender and development programs," said Lourdes Javier, director for Women Sector of PrimeWater and CSFWD.

The company also pledged to provide filters for the drinking water at the Covid-19 Kalingang Fernandino Isolation Facility and a toilet block with handwashing facility for Sta. Lucia Integrated School.

For his part, City Mayor Edwin Santiago said the local government already started the programs and activities for the Women's Month celebration.

Some of its various activities include Launching of Parent Mentors and Awarding of Kits; Seminar on Family and Community-Based Disaster Preparedness and Monitoring System; WomEntrepreneur Fair; Gender Sensitivity Training; and Webinar Training on Good Manufacturing Practices of Women's Livelihood Project; among others.

Santiago also expressed his gratitude to all partners in the private sector who joined the LGU in celebrating and "making change work for women."

"Ipinagmamalaki natin ang ating mga kababaihan dahil sa kanilang mahahalagang kontribusyon. Nararapat lamang na ipagdiwang ang kanilang araw at higit sa lahat bigyan sila ng proteksyon at kahalagahan sa lipunan. Sa ating mga partners sa private sector and non-government organizations, maraming salamat sa pakikisama sa amin upang maisulong pa ang kanilang karapatan," he said. (PR)
