LOPEZ-LED geothermal leader, Energy Development Corporation (EDC), takes one more step closer to its goal of a decarbonized and regenerative future together with its brand new Binhi partner from Negros Occidental, Farmville de Bago.

Farmville de Bago has signed as the EDC Binhi's 186th partner in a virtual ceremony last March 12.

Farmville de Bago is a 16.68-hectare farm complex located in Bago City, Negros Occidental that offers guests and visitors opportunities to interact with different farm animals and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Binhi is the EDC's flagship environmental program that focuses on research and rescue of threatened species of trees in our Philippine forests and aims to bring back abundance of these premium native trees.

Through the Binhi and Farmville de Bago partnership, the farm is now considered the 24th arboretum established under the Binhi program and will serve as a new haven of Philippine native trees.

Farmville de Bago's owners, Lawyer Henry Sy-Yap and his family, have in fact been collaborating with the EDC since 2017, making significant contributions to the EDC-initiated 10 Million Trees in 10 Years (10M in 10) for a Greener Negros Movement by planting more than 10,000 trees.

As a strong environmental advocate, Sy-Yap is committed to encouraging more people, starting with his own family, to contribute in their own little way to lessen, if not completely stop, actions that contribute to climate change.

Sy-Yap, in a message, commented on the effects of climate change that are becoming more and more apparent, saying that "[All the] more reason to have the resolve [for] me and my kids, hanggang sa mga apo ko, to do the right thing. I think we need to do this to save our planet. As I've said earlier, who else would [do it], but us."

For her part, EDC Corporate Social Responsibility Head for Negros Norreen Bautista said that for every arboretum established, we are ensuring the verdant legacy of our Philippine native trees.

"This partnership with Farmville de Bago is truly something to celebrate, as together we move beyond sustainability and promote regenerative stewardship of the environment and all its resources," she added.

The EDC is the world's leading geothermal company and has diverse renewable energy.

It has been powering Negros Island and its neighboring provinces in the Visayas region with geothermal energy -- the only form of renewable energy that is reliable and provides power 24/7, rain or shine -- for almost 40 years now. (PR)
