Liloan barangays get prepaid wifi units; more Globe cell sites to be built

GLOBE Telecom is working on building 13 more cell sites to support the thriving economy of Liloan, a town located in the northern part of Cebu.

This expansion program is on top of Liloan’s existing 14 Globe cell towers, said Adonis Evangelista, Globe’s regional sales head.

“This is for the people of Liloan to have a better internet speed... Liloan is one of the very progressive municipalities in northern Cebu,” he said.

Evangelista said they are working on the permits for the 13 cell sites with a target of two years to build. He said it takes an average of six months for a cell site to be built.

Globe and the local government of Liloan have collaborated through a connectivity partnership to boost Liloan’s need for reliable digital connectivity.

On Monday, March 15, 2021, Globe gave 14 units of Globe At Home Prepaid Wifi to the 14 barangays in Liloan.

“Hopefully without hindrance, the people in Liloan can already feel the improvement in terms of internet quality and speed,” he said.

The existing cell sites were also being upgraded to meet the growing demand for stable internet as work and learning have been moved to the home due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are continuously improving the existing demand for quality internet because there is congestion due to the high usage,” he said.

Evangelista said the upgrading of the cell sites goes together with the building of new ones.

“This is to decongest the network, and those who are connected in that particular area will now experience a better internet speed,” he said.

To support the current infrastructure, Evangelista said Liloan has 4,000 existing fiber to home connections. He said Globe plans to establish an additional 2,000 fiber lines. (JOB)
