THE Cebu Provincial Government launched four new ‘Suroy-Suroy Sugbo’ tour packages on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

Meanwhile, the tourism booking portal for the tour packages will open on Monday, March 22.

The tour packages are as follows: Southern Adventure, Northern Escapade, Island Getaway for those wanting to visit the islands of Bantayan and Malapascua, and Staycation.

Each tour package will be good for four days and three nights including roundtrip airfare, local transfers, breakfast, lunch and accommodation.

The rates would depend on the type of accommodation and whether the rooms are for single or double occupancy.

For the Bantayan Island Getaway, the rates could go from P8,250 to P18,750 for domestic tourists and P6,250 to P16, 750 for local tourists.

For the Malapascua Island Getaway, the tour package costs P7,550 to P18,050 for domestic tourists and P5,550 to P16,050 for locals.

While Southern Adventure, Northern Escapade and Staycation would cost between P5,500 to P16,000 for the local tourist and P7,500 to P18,000 for the domestic tourist.

The P2,000 difference between locals and domestic tourists represents the cost of the round trip airfare from the tourists’ point of origin to Cebu and then back.

Provincial Tourism Officer Maria Lester Ybañez recommends that people travel in groups to minimize costs.

“So these special packages are group packages by the way. So if there are more of you traveling, then the price drops because we can dispatch by groups. Our target is to start booking by March 22,” Ybañez said in Cebuano.

She expects the first batch of tourists to avail of Capitol’s tour packages starting March 29 to April 1.

Last February, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia ordered the lifting of the swab test requirement for travelers entering Cebu province as part of her efforts to revive Cebu’s economy.

“Tourism is not only a leisure activity. It is also an economic activity. For every activity involved, there are thousands upon thousands of jobs involved.

With Covid-19, everything closed.

Not only did we see jobs gone and livelihoods taken away, businesses closed. It was a catastrophe,” Garcia said during the launching of the new tour packages.

Garcia said this is Cebu’s way of showing to the rest of the country that it has moved on and it is moving forward. (ANV /RHB)
