THE 19th Davao City Council gave Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio the green light to enter and sign an agreement with other stakeholders for the procurement of Novavax Covid-19 vaccine.

The City Council on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, passed an ordinance authorizing Duterte-Carpio to enter into and sign the term sheet to be entered into by and among Faberco Life Sciences, Inc., City Government of Davao, Department of Health, National Task Force Against Covid-19 and "all other subsequent contracts that may be entered into by the City with the same or any of such parties, in pursuance of the acquisition/procurement by the City" of the NVX-COV2373 Vaccine.

NVX-COV2373 is a Covid-19 vaccine developed by Novavax and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. Faberco is the distributor of Novavax vaccines in the Philippines.

Council Floor Leader J. Melchor Quitain, proponent of the ordinance, said the City Legal Office gave an affirmative opinion for the agreement.

"We have the certification from the City Budget Office with the amount of P20,000,900 is available to purchase this vaccine," Quitain said.

This is the second agreement the City Council approved for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines.

The City Council on January 7 passed an ordinance authorizing Duterte-Carpio to sign for and on behalf of the city the confidentiality agreement by and between AstraZeneca, a British-Swedish biopharmaceutical company, and the City Government concerning business arrangements "relative to AZD1222 vaccine and its availability for distribution."

AZD1222 is a Covid-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca, in collaboration with Oxford University.

Duterte-Carpio said in a previous interview that the city is targeting to secure vaccines to approximately 1.2 million Dabawenyos.
