ANGELES City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. has ordered for a rapid testing in several barangays with high number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases.

This is part of the intensified safety protocols undertaken by the City Government in accordance with the Department of Health and Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

"We want to ensure the safety of every Angeleno and prevent the spread of Covid-19 in our city," Lazatin said.

The mayor said 36 new Covid-19 cases were recorded just on March 16, 2021.

Lazatin immediately ordered the temporary closure of gyms, fitness centers, sports facilities and other similar establishments.

He also directed the city police and concerned offices to enforce curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.

In January 2021, the City Health Office (CHO) reported 236 Covid-19 cases and in February, 222 cases.

As of March 16, the CHO already recorded 249 cases, prompting the mayor to heighten the city's safety protocols.
