THE new passenger terminal of Clark International Airport (CRK) is scheduled to start operation by June 11.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Thursday that "the inauguration of Terminal 2 of CRK is expected to held on June 11, 2021."

The opening of the new passenger terminal building is aimed at boosting the operational capacity of Clark airport from 4.2 million to 12.2 million passengers per year.

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President Vince Dizon, and Lipad Chief Executive Officer Bi Yong Chungunco on Thursday, March 18, discussed ways on how to accelerate the operationalization of the airport.

Chungunco said Clark airport is seen to contribute to the country's recovery from Covid-19.

"We look forward to making this terminal operational despite the challenges of working during this pandemic because we believe Clark International Airport will contribute to our country's economic recovery," she added.

Lipad Corporation assumed the operation and maintenance of Clark airport in January 2019.

It is a consortium of Filinvest Development Corporation, JG Summit Holdings Inc., Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc., and Changi Airports Philippines (I) Pte. Ltd.
