Charo Santos imparts lessons learned from her modeling days

ABS-CBN executive Charo Santos imparts words of wisdom to her Instagram followers: "Go, just walk! If I didn’t take that one step 50 years ago, I wouldn’t be here giving you these #CharosTips." Charo has committed to her memory a piece of advice she got during her modeling days that has served her well in her long years in showbiz. On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, the ABS-CBN executive wrote, "I often catch myself asking - "kaya ko ba yan?"

"On my first ever modeling stint on TV, when I was about to walk, I couldn’t move my body. I got nervous. I got scared... I thought 'Kaya ko ba to?' Until one of the models told me, 'Go Charo, just walk.'" Those words have kept Charo going, especially when the going gets tough.

She continued, "That stuck with me until now - in times of uncertainties and doubts, I just tell myself, 'Go Charo... just walk!' And was it all a smooth walk? Of course not, but I learned these things: It will never be a walk in the park all the time. But that’s what makes it exciting. You might fall and sometimes it's going to be a really hard fall, but as the saying goes, it's not how you fall but how you stand up. The harder the fall, the greater the lesson. And that’s what makes life worth living."

In few simple words, Charo offered her own piece of advice to her followers about getting ahead. She wrote, "If you don’t take that first step... you won’t get to where you want to be. It always has to start somewhere. Sometimes you have to walk with others. It’s never fun to walk alone."

Toward the end of her post, knowing from her experience that even the best-laid plans can be thrown into disarray, she urged her followers not to be afraid to take risks.

She said, "Of course you can honor the fear and the uncertainties but don’t stay too long on that route. Rest a bit and then walk again. Always look around and enjoy the view. Learn to appreciate. Learn to be grateful. It will make the walk meaningful. Are you stuck and scared to move? Go, just walk! If I didn’t take that one step 50 years ago, I wouldn’t be here giving you these #CharosTips."

Charo was the chief executive officer of ABS-CBN Corporation from 2012 to 2016. Currently, she simultaneously holds the positions of ABS-CBN's chief content officer and president of ABS-CBN University.

Charo also remains the host of Maalaala Mo Kaya, the longest-running drama anthology on Philippine television which she started hosting in May 1991.
