Negros Occidental guv assures support to high-value crop farmers

NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has assured support to farmers and their associations in the province.

Lacson, who visited two vegetable farms in La Castellana and Bago City on Friday, March 19, 2021, said the provincial government is looking at how to further assist farmers in improving their livelihood.

The two farms are those of Barangay Robles Farmers Association and Mailum Organic Village Association in La Castellana and Bago City, respectively.

"The provincial government is ready to help the farmers and their associations so their productivity and income will increase," he added.

The governor also lauded the farmers for their enthusiasm for agriculture that contributes a lot to sustain the province's food security.

The associations plant vegetables and other high-value crops and sell their produce to gain profit for their members.

The farmers, for their part, said they are thankful for the livelihood assistance previously given by the provincial government such as vegetable seeds and other farm implements.

La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan and Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo were also present during the visit.

On Thursday, Lacson also visited a farm-grown by youth organization, Myrianne Youth Farmers Organization, in Barangay San Pablo in Manapla town.

The group currently grows vegetables and other high-value crops in a 600-square meter farm, which is being poised to become one of the agri-tourism destinations in the northern Negros Occidental locality.

Lacson said he is happy to see children who are very much interested and engaged in agriculture.

He also assured them of more agricultural support and projects from the provincial government.
