AFTER posting bail over illegal drug-related charges, a 48-year-old man was ambushed and shot dead past 11 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021, in Barangay Don Virgilio Gonzales, Medellin town, Cebu.

The unknown assailants were on board two vehicles.

Medellin Police Chief Major Wilter Grapa said the victim is identified as Reynaldo Batad Arcenal, a drug personality from San Remigio, Cebu.

According to Grapa, Arcenal was on board his Toyota Innova with six family members, including children, after posting bail over illegal drug-related charges in a court in the City of Bogo, Cebu.

When Arcenal passed by a deserted area in between sugarcane plantations, two vehicles—one a pickup truck—blocked his passage. One blockaded the front of Arcenal’s car, the other at the back.

Armed men (some of them wore masks) alighted from the two vehicles and demanded Arcenal’s fellow passengers to lie face-down. Then they started shooting at Arcenal who was seated in the passenger seat behind the driver.

Arcenal’s sister was hit in the arm during the shooting.

Grapa said that Arcenal had lung cancer. Due to this, he was able to post bail to seek medical treatment.

Cebu Police Provincial Office Director Police Colonel Alladin Collado mandated the police force of Medellin to investigate the motive for the shooting and identify the killers. (AYB, GPL / With NRC)
