More Globe customers now on 4G LTE as 3G usage drops

GLOBE goes full speed ahead towards achieving a #1stWorldNetwork with more customers now on 4G LTE. The telco is actively positioning 4G as the new standard of mobile internet in the country.

The shift towards the faster and more advanced 4G LTE technology saw a significant decline in the number of customers using 3G technology and 3G data usage. The company posted a 47.4 percent drop in the number of customers using 3G from May 2020 until January 2021.

3G refers to the third generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology which was first introduced in 2001.

The telco also posted a 34 percent increase in the number of customers using LTE from May 2020 until January 2021.

“We have been anticipating the decline in 3G users as more customers are realizing the benefits of using 4G LTE for better data experience and faster internet speed. This provides more value for money and better mobile experience if they are connected to our 4G LTE network,” said Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

Agustin also added that as the country moved towards the new normal, more and more Globe customers turned to 4G LTE technology for their work from home, distance learning and other requirements.

Globe expects that 4G LTE volume usage will increase further as it continues to expand its 4G LTE network to include far-flung areas and other strategic locations all over the country.

Globe has been urging its remaining customers who are still using 3G SIM cards to upgrade to the 5G-ready 4G LTE SIM cards.

Upgrading to a 5G-ready 4G LTE SIM card is free of charge at all Globe Stores. Moreover, customers will retain their old number. For security reasons, customers are advised to upgrade their SIM cards at all Globe Stores. For more information, one can go to https://www.globe.com.ph/help/mobile-internet/lte/faqs.html.

Customers who wish to upgrade their mobile devices can also check all Globe stores to see the affordable and available 5G-ready 4G/LTE-capable mobile devices.

Globe’s aggressive and sustained network builds and upgrades are showing enhanced overall customer data experience as the telco emerged as the most improved in mobile average download speed across all technologies to 16.44 Mbps in Q4 2020 from 13.50 Mbps in Q4 2019, a 22 percent improvement according to Ookla data.

Globe puts into action its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by actively supporting the Race To Zero global campaign spearheaded by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and COP26 Presidency and backed by the GSMA, the global mobile industry body.

Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG No. 9 which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs. SPONSORED CONTENT
