Nearly 5,000 cops dismissed from service

A TOTAL of 4,974 policemen have been dismissed from the service under the intensified campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP) against scalawags.

Based on the PNP data, a total of 1,786 erring cops were reprimanded from July 2016 to March 24, 2021 over various violations of their duties and police standard operating procedure.

Of the total, 4,974 were dismissed, 943 were demoted, 8,806 were suspended, 716 forfeited their salary, 1,973 were reprimanded, 132 were restricted and 242 were not given privileges.

Of the 4,974 dismissed policemen, 617 commissioned officers, 584 non-commissioned members and 13 non-uniformed personnel were involved in drug-related cases.

In his televised public address on March 29, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the PNP to immediately remove erring cops from the service, particularly those involved in graft and corruption.

He ordered the PNP to forward to his office the papers of Captain Danilo Yema Jr., Master Sergeant Federico Javier, Corporal Arvin Abella, Patrolman Roberto Descallar and Patrolman Ronnel Abarcar.

These policemen were merely suspended from the service for 60 days over grave misconduct and corrupt practices.
