AMID the surge in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, the coming of Easter brings forth the promise of seeing better days ahead.

This was the message of Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo to the public, as the Catholic Church celebrates Easter Sunday on April 4.

"Easter is not only about Jesus. It is also about us. Jesus is the guarantee that a new and better day is coming. Let us not lose hope," said Pabillo.

"We continue to strive because we know, with God's help, that we shall overcome. Praise God, who gives us victory over death, over sickness, over evil. This is the real meaning of the Easter," he added.

Pabillo said better days are guaranteed as the country continues to see people doing acts of love and sacrifice for others.

He said such acts are evident among the medical frontliners who are tired, in danger, and not adequately compensated.

The prelate said this can also be seen among family members, who comfort and serve those of their families who are sick.

He said it is also seen among daily wage earners who continue to work, putting themselves to daily risk, to support their families.

"All of these efforts and good will join in the victory of the resurrection," he said.

"Jesus' new life shows us that God rewards all acts of love and sacrifice. God blesses all the good that is being done," added Pabillo.

On Sunday, April 4, the Catholic faithful will celebrate Easter Sunday, which commemorates the resurrection of Christ from the dead.

It comes amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, accentuated by the record-high 15,310 cases last Friday, April 2. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
