Mendoza: Uniform allowance for teachers, staff after Easter

CHRIST is risen, alleluia!

The resurrection of Jesus, or anastasis, is the Christian belief that God raised Jesus on the third day after his crucifixion, according to the New Testament writings as firstborn from the dead ushering in the Kingdom of God, and starting his exalted life as Christ and Lord.

This is the fulfillment of God’s promise in the Gospel of John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

There is no other thing that we will do as believers but to accept Him as our personal savior and live a righteous life according to His example for we are created according to God’s image and likeness.

The Department of Education releases guidelines on new uniforms for teachers, non-teaching personnel Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

DepEd announces the adoption of the four new sets of DepEd national uniform designs for teaching and non-teaching personnel in preparation for School Year (SY) 2022 to 2023.

The said information was stipulated in the DepEd issued Memorandum No.16 s. 2021 which provides guidelines for the new uniforms even if the opening of face-to-face classes is still uncertain as of the moment due to the Covid-19 pandemic and now the rising number of cases especially in the National Capital Region (NCR) and its neighboring provinces and cities.

In the said Memorandum, the department explained that SY 2021 to 2022 will be considered as a “transition period” which the teachers can use to prepare and purchase the new set of uniforms. This is also in consideration of the Covid-19 crisis and the continuing implementation of the blended learning delivery and alternative working arrangements of the department.

Consequently, the teachers and non-teaching staff’s old uniforms may still be used during the said period, but DepEd will strictly require them to use the new set of uniforms in SY 2022 to 2023.

Among the listed exemption in the wearing of uniforms as stipulated in the memo are school officials with third-level positions in the Career Executive Services (incumbent of the positions of assistant schools division superintendents and up), medical and dental staff, utility and maintenance personnel, legal officers, teaching and non-teaching personnel with physical disabilities, and pregnant employees.

According to the press release from DepEd, uniform allowance will be released to all personnel before the first working day of April 2021, subject to accounting, auditing and the release of Notice of Cash Allocation from the Department of Budget and Management.

This Corner hopes that the recipients of the said benefit will use the allocation wisely given the leeway provided in the release of the said important allowance from DepEd.
