Swimmer circumnavigates Olango in 12 hours

OPEN water swimmer Cleevan Kayne Alegres finished his circumnavigation of Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City in 12 hours. He swam an estimated distance of 20 kilometers.

The 25-year-old native of Lapu-Lapu City started swimming at 3:30 p.m. of Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, and finished at 3:30 a.m. of Monday, April 5, 2021.

Alegres earlier estimated that he would be able to cover the distance in at least eight hours.

His swim is the first phase in a series of attempts to circumnavigate Mactan Island’s coastal waters. It is one of the events set to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan that took place on April 27, 1521. (REV/With NRC)
