KRISTINE Tiuseco-Cruz is one of the Filipinos doing very well abroad. Her family live in Washington State in the United States and she works as a physician who takes care of hospitalized patient in Tacoma General Hospital. She is one of the doctors who rotate through hospital’s Covid units.
This young doctor from the Philippines got inoculated with the Pfizer vaccine. She had a bit of swelling at the injection site on both doses that she had and nothing more. The USA has good supply and she was able to receive two doses 21 days apart. Some countries, like Canada, are waiting for the second doses to be given to healthcare workers for now as they await more supplies to come.
Vaccine was provided by the federal government, then distributed by the state department of health to healthcare facilities like our hospital. There is no need for private insurance to get jabbed.
Dr. Cruz further adds, "The United States government is supposed to eventually get enough vaccines for everyone for free. They are grouping people in three categories -- first is healthcare workers and people in nursing homes, then second is all elderly people and teachers, then third I think is everyone else."
Here I am writing this and slightly wishing I am American as I am increasingly seeing friends who are in America getting inoculated. The country has a plan, indeed.
Dr. Cruz said she felt perfectly fine in the days and coming weeks after each injection. Healthcare workers who got inoculated were asked to stay in the vaccination site for 30 minutes after each shot to monitor for anaphylaxis or any severe allergic reactions. Otherwise, no other precautions for the people getting vaccinated. There was an app we could download to report side effects to the FDA, if there are any.
There were no foods or activities to avoid before or after taking the vaccine. I know people in the Philippines are scared of the vaccine because of the Dengvaxia controversy. However, if people do not get vaccinated, I do not know how the Philippines will get herd immunity. I will be writing more about Covid as days go by. In the meantime, keep healthy dear readers.
