Town dad killed, driver hurt in gun attack

A TOWN official was killed while his driver was critically wounded in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday, April 5, 2021.

Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the fatality as Councilor Alvarez Dammang, 45, of Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Ylagan said Dammang was rushed to the Mabuhay Municipal Health Unit but was declared dead by the attending physician.

The driver of Dammang identified as Alamsa Sabturani, 35, was in critical condition in the same medical facility.

Ylagan said investigation showed that Dammang and Sabturani were riding tandem in a motorcycle traveling to the town of Talusan when repeatedly shot with an M-16 Armalite rifle by one of two men aboard another motorcycle that tailed them around 1:10 p.m. Monday in Purok 1, Poblacion village, Mabuhay.

He said the suspects sped towards Mahayay village, Talusan after the incident.

Ylagan said an in-depth probe is underway to unmask the culprits behind the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
