ONLY 51 percent of medical frontliners in Central Visayas had been inoculated with Covid-19 vaccine as of Tuesday,
April 6, 2021.
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, Department of Health (DOH) 7 spokesperson, said that of the 131,781 medical frontliners qualified to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, only 67,662 of them were inoculated.
This is only 51.3 percent of the total eligible medical workers enlisted.
Vaccinated
On Tuesday, April 6, the DOH 7 vaccinated 2,414 medical workers.
Of 67,662 medical workers inoculated, 2,610 have received the second doses, or 3.9 percent.
Of the 2,610 workers who received their second doses, 213 are from Bohol, 160 from Negros Oriental, 1,782 from Cebu City, 69 from Lapu-Lapu City, and 386 from Mandaue City.
Loreche said she was among the medical professionals who have received the second dose.
As for the adverse effects, the DOH 7 reported 463 individuals who experienced adverse effects after they were inoculated with CoronaVac and 1,106 individuals after they were vaccinated with AstraZeneca.
Loreche said all were mild cases.
Also, those who have received the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, Loreche said they have not received any reports of adverse effects as of April 6.
As of April 6, Loreche said Central Visayas received 119,760 doses of Covid-19 vaccine—89,760 doses of CoronaVac vaccine and 30,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.
Cebu City vaccination
In Cebu City, Mayor Edgardo Labella said thousands of doses of AstraZeneca and Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccines from the National Government will arrive in Cebu City this week or next week.
He did not specify the number of doses to be delivered to the city.
To encourage the city residents who are 60 years old and above to receive Covid-19 vaccine jabs, Labella, 69, will have himself inoculated first. The mayor did not say which vaccine brand he would choose.
Labella said only 11 percent of the target number of the elderly population registered themselves to receive the vaccine. Cebu City has around 83,000 senior citizens.
Resumption
Labella also announced that the vaccination for the barangay health workers (BHW) and volunteers will resume on Thursday, April 8 at Robinsons Galleria Cebu and University of Cebu Banilad campus.
The vaccination for BHWs and barangay volunteers was suspended before the Holy Week because there was a shortage of vaccine supply.
Labella said there is now enough supply of AstraZeneca and CoronaVac vaccines for the BHWs and volunteers’ first doses.
After 30 days, they will receive the second doses along with medical workers at Cebu City Medical Center and its offices.
Talisay’s BHWs
The BHWs in 22 barangays of Talisay City, Cebu were inoculated with Covid-19 vaccines on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
In a statement, Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. said they conducted the vaccinations of their BHWs on Tuesday, after receiving 100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the Cebu Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Gullas said he was glad the PHO provided them with vaccines as their BHWs needed the inoculation since they are the “first-line of defense” in their barangays.
He added that the Covid-19 inoculations for the BHWs will be particularly useful as they will be directly involved in the registration and actual vaccination of the city’s senior citizens soon. (KFD, PAC, JKV)
