Ang konsehal ni-sponsor og resolution niadtong Enero 13, 2021 nga giaprobahan sa City Council ug ni Mayor Edgardo Labella para sa pormal nga pag-awhag ni Duterte sanglit kini maoy ika-500 ka tuig pag-abot sa Kristiyanismo sa Pilipinas.
“I hope and pray that my resolution urging the President to declare April 14, 500 Years of Christianity as a special non-working holiday for Cebu City. I hope they will answer our prayer in order to celebrate this historical occasion in a most solemn way,” padayag ni Garganera.
Giasoy sa resolution sa konsehal nga niabot si Ferdinand Magellan niadtong 1521 ug 86 porsyento sa mga Pinoy mga Romano Katoliko.
Matod sa iyang resolution, ang unang bunyag sa mga Pilipino nahitabo niadtong Abril 14, diin si Rajah Humabon ang unang lumad nga nahimong Katoliko ug gipanganlan siya og Carlos isip pahinungod sa hari sa Espanya nga si King Carlos I.
“The Cebuano community has been anually commemorating the birth of Christianity in the Philippines that started in Cebu, which paved the way for the Sinulog Festival,” tipik sa resolution ni Garganera.
Ang Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (Opav) nga gipangulohan ni Secretary Michael Dino nagkanayon nga naghuwat pa ang Office of the Executive Secretary sa paborable nga tubag sa
National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
