Eastern Visayas Covid-19 cases climb to 16,960

CORONAVIRUS infections in Eastern Visayas have climbed to 16,960 following the 57 new cases reported on Friday, April 9, 2021.

The 56 new cases were recorded out of 692 laboratory samples tested in the three Covid-19 laboratories in the region.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported one new Covid-related death identified as patient EV-16859, a 66-year-old male from Almeria, Biliran who died on April 7, 2021.

As of Friday morning, the region logged a total number of recoveries at 16,326 (96.26 percent) and total deaths at 255 (1.50 percent).

This brought the total active cases to 379 (2.23 percent), according to DOH.

Meanwhile, the regional health department has assigned 16 health workers for augmentation to the National Capital Region amid the continuous increase in cases of Covid-19 in Eastern Visayas.

The medical team, composed of 15 nurses and one medical doctor in the person of Dr. Sheila Legaspi from the Rural Health Unit of Basey, Samar, traveled to Manila last April 7.

They will be assigned to the Lung Center of the Philippines for one month. (SunStar Philippines)
