2 lawless group members die in shootouts

TWO lawless group members were killed in separate law enforcement operations in the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay and North Cotabato, officials announced Sunday, April 11, 2021.

Killed were Mundik Albembeng, who has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of robbery with homicide, and Bayan Guila Dumila alias Boy Army, who has a warrant of arrest for three-count murder.

Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Director, said Albembeng was killed in a shootout around 5:58 a.m. Sunday in San Vicente village, Tungawan.

Larubis said the shootout ensued when Albembeng opened fire, prompting the joint police and military troopers to return fire while they were responding to a shooting incident report at the residence of Hatima Ismael, the treasurer of San Vicente village.

Troopers recovered from the slain suspect a chamber-loaded caliber .45 pistol with an inserted magazine with four live ammunition, a scythe with scabbard and two empty shells of caliber .45.

Dumila was killed, also in a shootout, Saturday in Sitio Kabugan in Guiling village, Alamada, North Cotabato, according to Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

Vinluan said the firefight ensued after Dumila opened fire while a joint team of policemen and soldiers were about to serve a warrant of arrest against him.

Troops recovered two M-14 rifles, four magazines, and 80 rounds of ammunition from the hideout of Damila. (SunStar Zamboanga)
