DIGOS City Mayor Josef Cagas confirmed that he tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

His confirmation was posted by the Digos City Information Office on its official Facebook page on Friday evening, April 9, 2021.

According to the post, Cagas tested positive on Thursday, April 8.

"He is currently being isolated and treated in a hospital," the information office said.

As part of our health protocols, they said contact tracing is ongoing for those who have been in close contact with the mayor “since March 17, although this is already beyond the 14-day incubation period counting backward from April 9.”

"Recent contacts with the city mayor, however, especially those still within the 14-day incubation period must be reported immediately so we can identify you and extend all the needed help [or] assistance, including free swab test or the use of isolation units whenever necessary," the local government said.

The city also encouraged those who experienced signs or symptoms of Covid-19, such as cough, fever and body pains, among others, to report immediately to health authorities for immediate assessment.

As of April 11, Digos City has 771 confirmed Covid-19 cases, of which 719 have recovered, 31 are active cases, and 21 have died.
