Covid-19 death toll in PNP rises as 2 more cops die

TWO more police officers succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the police force's fatality toll to 46, PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Guillermo Eleazar said on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Eleazar said a 48-year-old male police commissioned officer (PCO) assigned at the Legal Service and a 47-year old male PCO assigned at the Explosives Ordnance Division/K9 Group died on Monday, April 12.

Sinas assured that assistance will be provided to the bereaved families.

"In behalf of the PNP, we would like to give our condolences to the bereaved family and assures to give every assistance they needed," he said.

"The PNP leadership is doing everything to mitigate this virus especially on our personnel, as frontliners. One death is one too many,” he added.

As of Monday evening, there were a total of 2,391 active Covid cases in the PNP. A total of 17,637 cops tested positive for the virus while 15,200 recovered.

Meanwhile, Eleazar said the number of police officers vaccinated against Covid-19 has reached 6,728.

Of the total, 5,085 police officers were vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine and 1,649 got AstraZeneca.
