TALISAY City Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas urged health officials to thoroughly investigate the case of Sydney Rose Panimdim.

Panimdim, the cleaning woman who works for the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), reportedly died from adverse effects after she received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Gullas told reporters that he visited Panimdim's relatives in Barangay Tanke on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

Gullas had vowed to Panimdim's family, especially to her common law husband and two kids, that the City will provide financial and food assistance to them.

"I am awaiting the official report from the Department of Health. So I cannot give a comment on her death. But I assured her (Panimdim) family that we will be there to help them," Gullas said.

As to whether Panimdim's death could affect the city's ongoing registration of senior citizens for Covid-19 vaccination, Gullas assured that senior citizens will be given a choice if they want to be vaccinated or not.

"Here in Talisay, if you want to be vaccinated and you give your consent, then you will receive it," Gullas added.

The Department of Health (DOH) Central Visayas is in the midst of the its investigation to determine if Panimdim's death was related to her second inoculation of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Panimdim's relatives claimed that she reportedly fell ill after receiving her second dose on April 10.

But on the next day, Panimdim was rushed to the Talisay District Hospital after she suffered from a severe asthma attack. She eventually died at the hospital. (JKV)
