Landero loses to Monabesa in Indonesia

TOTO Landero was outclassed by World Boxing Council (WBC) No. 6 ranked light flyweight Tibo Monabesa by unanimous decision in a 12-round fight for the vacant WBC International light flyweight belt on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Balai Sarbini Convention Hall in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Monabesa got the nod of all three judges with scores of 117-111, 115-113 and 116-112.

Landero was very aggressive and consistently threw wild punches at Monabesa. However, the Indonesian veteran defended Landero’s attack well and effectively landed with his counter punches.

Landero fought hard up until the final bell, but Monabesa was the more effective fighter and walked away with the decision victory.

Landero, who’s rated No. 23 in the WBC light flyweight division, dropped to 11-5-2 with two knockouts. He lost four of his last five contests.

Monabesa, on the other hand, is now 21-1-2 with eight knockouts and will most likely move up the rankings, positioning himself closer to a world title shot against WBC light flyweight king Kenshiro Teraji. (EKA)
