Dito expands services to Compostela, Cordova

CHINA-BACKED Dito Telecommunity Corp., the country’s third telco player, has expanded its commercial operations to two new areas in Cebu—the towns of Compostela and Cordova.

It has also launched its services in select areas in Luzon and Mindanao namely in Malvar, Tanauan, Lipa City and Santo Tomas, in Bantangas; Baliuag, Bulacan; Silang and Tagaytay in Cavite; Los Baños and Calamba in Laguna; Palayan, Santa Rosa, Science City of Muñoz, Talavera and Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija; Tarlac City, Capas, Concepcion and Gerona in Tarlac; and General Santos City in South Cotabato.

Dito said it continually updates its list and bolsters its coverage throughout the nation.

It now has 300 partner stores in the country where the public can buy its SIM cards.

Dito uses its next-gen technology VoLTE which stands for Voice over LTE. This technology allows the user to make voice calls over LTE connection, instead of older, legacy voice networks.

“There’s a growing range of VoLTE phones, and the price would depend on the phone specs and brand you prefer. Offhand, VoLTE phone prices can go as low as P3,000,” Dito said in its website.

Dito said VoLTE lets a user experience high-definition voice call quality, enables the use of data and voice at the same time, saves the mobile phone’s battery life and gives faster voice connection time.

In an earlier report, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said it has welcomed private sector investment in digital infrastructure to upgrade the competitiveness of the Philippines.

DICT Secretary Gregorio Honasan III said they hope to attract more opportunities, create more jobs, and generally improve lives affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The DICT is continuously coordinating with the National Telecommunications Commission in monitoring the rollout plans of all telco players following the directives of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for telcos to improve their services amid the new normal,” Honasan said.

Dito initially launched its services on March 8, 2021 in Metro Cebu areas, namely the cities of Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Mandaue and Talisay and towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Minglanilla, Naga and San Fernando. (JOB)
