No. 7 Plania fights one before US return

WORLD-RATED Mike Plania will see action in Gen. Santos City before leaving for the US.

Plania takes on Emmanuel Mogawa in an eight-round activity fight on April 30, 2021 at the Sanman Gym.

“After this fight, he’ll be returning to America,” Sanman Promotions CEO JC Manangquil told SunStar Cebu. “His visa got a little bit delayed because of the lockdown.”

The 24-year-old Plania is coming off the biggest win of his career, a majority decision win over Joshua Greer Jr. on June 16, 2020 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Plania is currently ranked No. 2 in the bantamweight division by the World Boxing Organization (WBO). He’s also rated No. 7 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 8 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 15 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as a super bantamweight.

Plania isn’t taking this fight lightly and is training hard at the Sanman boxing gym alongside Jayson Mama and Jade Bornea, who are also seeing action on the same event. They are training under the guidance of trainer Ronrex Dalut and strength and conditioning coach Jenny Guevarra.

Mogawa, a native of Dipolog City, has not fought for almost two years. He lost his last fight by unanimous decision to Johnriel Castino on Sept. 6, 2019.

Plania is 24-1 with 12 knockouts, while Mogawa is 5-3 with two knockouts.

On the other hand, Mama (15-0, 8 KOs) trades leathers with Romshane Sarguilla (7-5-2, 4 KOs) in a 10-rounder.

Also in the undercard, Bornea (15-0, 10 KOs) locks horns with Roland Jay Biendema (15-7-1, 8 KOs) in a 10-round bout and John Vicent Pangga (5-1) takes on Elizer Ambon (0-5) in a four-rounder. (EKA)
