A VILLAGE councilor was shot and wounded in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 9:10 a.m. Friday in Purok 2, Sioton village, Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco identified the victim as Ronald Olibo Momo, 49, a councilor of Sioton village, Mabuhay.

Investigation showed the victim was walking towards Kasigpitan village of Mabuhay’s nearby town of Talusan town when shot from the back by an unidentified gunman.

He said the Mabuhay Municipal Police Station is conducting an in-depth probe to establish the motive, as well as unmask the suspect.

The incident was the third case that happened this year in Mabuhay town wherein the victims are elected government officials.

Two others -- Edgar Pampanga, municipal engineer, and Hadji Abduhari Gapor, a former town councilor -- were injured in the same incident.

Municipal Councilor Alvarez Dammang, 45, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds when shot by one of two riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle on April 5 in Poblacion village, Mabuhay.
