THE Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in two barangays in Cebu City recently opened public spaces that serve as learning and education hubs for the youth.

Barangay Suba launched on April 17, 2021 its SK Lounge that offers free use of 15 Cebu City Government’s Education Hub tablets and six computer sets with internet connection.

Suba SK Chairman Jaybie Mantilla said that the space accommodates visitors wanting to connect to the internet on a first-come basis and for a limited time.

For its part, Barangay Pasil opened its SK Pasil Social Kafe where the youth can use its tablets, computer sets, and books for free. It also offers free printing and a free internet connection.

The hub can also serve as a meeting and study place for the youth, said Pasil SK Chairman Cherry Lyn Quijano.

According to the Cebu City Public Information Office, 18 barangays in Cebu City have opened spaces where the youth, particularly individuals ages 15 to 30 years old, can use the tablets with internet access for educational purposes for two hours.

These devices were donated by the Jaime Ongpin Foundation through Senator Tito Sotto to the Cebu City Government on Dec. 14, 2020. (NRC)
