THE City Government of Bago is set to distribute certified seeds to rice farmers in the southern Negros Occidental locality starting next week.

The local government, in its official newsletter's Facebook page, announced that a total of 6,500 bags of seeds were already delivered to the city on Thursday, April 22.

Officials led by Mayor Nicholas Yulo along with City Agriculturist Carlito inspected the seeds delivered at the City Agriculture Office's warehouse.

The initial delivery included 3,000 bags of NSIC RC 222 and 2,000 bags of NSIC RC 216 certified palay from the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) under the Department of Agriculture's Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund project.

These form part of the 20,600 bags allocation for Bago City for the wet cropping season.

The city government, through its Palay Seeds Subsidy Program 50:50 scheme, also procured 4,500 bags.

Of the number, 1,500 were also already delivered on Thursday.

"This is for farmer-beneficiaries at northern part coverage of the National Irrigation Administration - Bago River Irrigation System (NIA-Bris)," the city government said, adding that the seeds subsidy will be ready for distribution to Bagonhon farmers starting next week.

The programs are part of the continued support of the national and local government to Bagonhon rice farmers to increase their yield, it also said.
