MJAS Zenith-Talisay City guard Darrell Shane Menina sure made it look easy on Saturday night when he carved up the defense of the KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue City for 28 big points in an 81-73 win in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.

However, the wily guard from Poblacion, Talisay City, admitted that the transition from playing collegiate basketball in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) to the professional level has been far from easy. He admitted, though, that he’s been fortunate enough to have seasoned veterans as teammates to help guide him.

“Dili sayon ang pag-transition gikan sa college to pro kay mga kontra dili basta-basta, mga veterans pud,” shared Menina, who before his offensive outburst against KCS, was averaging just 4.6 points, 1.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in a mere 12 minutes of action per game.

Menina said he’s grateful for the on-the-job training he’s getting from the likes of former PBA players Paulo Hubalde, Patrick Jan Cabahug, Val Acuña and Lester Alvarez, which has really helped him adjust his game.

“Pasalamat sad ko sa ako team nga naay veterans na teammates especially Kuya Paulo, Kuya Pat, Kuya Val, Kuya Lester, tanan mga kuya nako nag advice, salamat ko nila. Ila ko gitagaan og advice ug guidance,” shared Menina.

As scorching hot as his shooting was against KCS, Menina said he didn’t seek those shots out as his main goal was to guide his team towards the win.

“God’s Plan nato nga 11 of 12 shots akong nashoot kay ako ra gibuhat ako part na madala akong mga teammates para maka 8 straight wins mi,” Menina shared. (JNP)
