730 kilos of Chinese frozen chicken, pork products seized, burned

SOME 730 kilos of Chinese frozen chicken and pork products were confiscated by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) from a delivery van in a checkpoint in the RoRo terminal at Caticlan Jetty Port in Malay, Aklan.

Dr. Cyrosa Leen Mabel Siñel, PVO chief, said the items were placed at 78 thermo boxes. The van driver failed to present permits, prompting the PVO to confiscate the items.

The items, which were confiscated last April 21, reportedly came from Metro Manila and were supposed to be delivered to Roxas City, Capiz.

The PVO is manning a checkpoint in both sea and air terminals in Aklan, as the Western Visayas is still free from the African Swine Fever (ASF). With this, the PVO, through a task force, is routinely doing inspections in all cargoes entering the province.

"We consider it as a Chinese product since we saw Chinese characters in all of their labels. We have already talked to the consignee over the said products and he agreed that the items be burned," Sinel said.

The products were burned down on April 25 in a vacant lot owned by the Provincial Engineer’s Office in Barangay Tina, Makato. (SunStar Philippines)
