Aldea wins WBA Asia belt with unanimous decision win

ROLDAN Aldea captured the World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight title after a unanimous decision win over previously unbeaten Junior Raka at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Aldea got the nod of all three judges with identical scores of 97-93.

The 27-year-old Aldea brought the fight to Raka and dropped him to the canvas in the second round.

Raka, however, survived, but Aldea was up ahead on the scorecards at the end of the 10-round bout.

Aldea improved to 16-8-1 with nine knockouts and won his first regional title after two attempts in the past. He challenged for the interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) super featherweight belt but lost to Tersak Jandaeng via a fourth round knockout in 2015. He fought Xing Xiang Sun for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia lightweight belt in 2018 and lost by majority decision.

The 28-year-old Raka, a native of Port Moresby, suffered his first career loss and dropped to 2-1 with two knockouts.

On the other hand, 39-year-old veteran Mark Sales lost by unanimous decision to Andrew Aisanga in the undercard.

Sales, who has 24 years of pro boxing experience, dropped to 23-44-5 with eight knockouts, while Aisanga remained unbeaten with 2-0 and a knockout. (EKA)
