Ex-convict shot dead in Bacolod

A FORMER inmate was shot to death by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle on Luzuriaga Street, Barangay 13, Bacolod City Monday morning, April 26, 2021.

Police identified the fatality as Benvienido Gellanga, 52, of Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Police Major Ramel Sarona, chief of Police Station 1, said the victim was walking along Luzuriaga Street when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired at him several times around 6:30 a.m.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Police recovered at the scene of the crime six empty shells of .45 caliber and .9mm firearm.

Sarona said they also found the victim's bag containing his certificate of discharge from Bureau of Corrections Iwahig Prison and Penal Arm in Palawan.

He said in previous years, the victim was charged for the crime of homicide and was released on May 29, 2018.

The police are eyeing the victim's previous case or personal grudge as possible motives in the killing.

Sarona said that last month, the victim, an electric-bike driver, was involved in a commotion on Luzuriaga Street.

He said they are still gathering evidences to identity and arrest the perpetrators.
