Letter to the Editor: Thank you, Cebu City

AS A senior citizen and foreigner, I would like to say thank you for receiving my vaccination with Sinovac on Wednesday, April 21. I don't take it for granted.

First of all, a big compliment to the authorities for the excellent organization. I was really impressed by the disciplined system.

I entered the vaccination center (accompanied by my wife) at UC High School Building in Banilad at 7:20 a.m. and was able to leave at 9:30 a.m.

I was given a form to fill out and had to pass three or four tables before I got my shot. No red tape, I only had to present my permanent ID for online registration.

Since I got my first shot (the second one is scheduled for May 21), I haven't experienced any reaction or side effects. Besides the good feeling of more physical protection, there is in addition the psychological effect of well-being.

After a year of uncertainty and underlying fear, there is the great feeling to be more on the safe side. It does of course not mean to relax the health protocol, like wearing a face mask, social distancing, etc.

To get vaccinated or not is a very personal decision; my opinion is very clear in this respect, there is no alternative to vaccination if we want to get back a reasonable and comfortable life again. In short: there is nothing to fear but a lot to gain.

My deepest appreciation to all the frontliners and local staff who never forget to smile.
