Clark bike lanes complete by July

THE Clark Development Corporation (CDC) said the ongoing construction of bike lanes inside the Clark Freeport will be completed by July 2021.

The firm's Engineering Services Group (ESG) – Construction Management Division (CMD) highlighted the bike lane project - Phase 3 dubbed as the “New Clark City Non-Motorized Transport System to Clark Freeport Zone.”

CDC said the project is aimed to promote the Freeport as a green, walkable and bike-friendly community.

The project was planned and designed by CDC- ESG and supported by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

The construction of the bike lanes began on February 23, 2021. It involved the creation of four-meter-width and 7.96 kilometers asphalt pavement with markings and reinforced concrete cyclist bridge.

The bike lanes cover the area from the corner of C.M. Recto Avenue and Creekside road going to Panday Pira Avenue rotunda to Mabalacat Gate, and from Gil Puyat Avenue to Prince Balagtas Avenue at the Marcos Village in this Freeport.

Phase 1 of the project was completed in 2019, while Phase 2 was finished in February 2021.

These bike lanes are now being enjoyed by numerous bikers and cycling enthusiasts in the Freeport.

CDC also instigated the "Clark Bike Days," a program dedicated to anyone who would like to visit scenic spots inside this Freeport.

The "bike days” held every Saturday and Sunday feature a morning and afternoon schedule from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

One of the designated bike routes under this program is the Prince Balagtas Road.

The cycling program aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and to spur tourism in the area.

CDC officials, executives and members of the CDC Board of Directors expressed support to this initiative.

Meanwhile, the well-being of bikers and cycling enthusiasts is also ensured with health and safety protocols enforced in the Freeport.

Due to its safe, convenient and accessible bike paths established along main thoroughfares, this Freeport is one of the favorite destinations of cyclists from across the region.

The freeport was awarded the ultimate Sports Destination of the Year for 2015 and 2019 by the Philippine Sports Tourism Awards. (With reports from Charlene Cayabyab)
