THE Cebu City police plan to organize a “barangayanihan” community pantry together with the 11 police stations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to help the less fortunate who have been the most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, it was Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, the CCPO director, who suggested that they put up their own community pantry.

They will be providing essential food items such as eggs, rice, canned goods and vegetables which people can take for their sustenance.

Parilla said in order to implement the minimum health standards, they will be distributing coupons.

Ligan has tasked station commanders and barangay officials to identify those residents in their jurisdiction who need the coupons most.

The CCPO personnel will also shell out personal funds to buy vegetables and canned goods while they wait for private citizens’ donations.

The CCPO is calling on those who wish to donate and help the Cebuanos who are in need.

It is also open to donations from politicians.

Parilla assured that they are careful in accepting donations that may come from drug personalities who only seek protection from the police in exchange for their help.

Meanwhile, a community pantry was also organized by the Barili police station where their own produce were given to the residents.

The personnel of the Barili police station had been planting in the vacant lot near their office, and when harvest time came, they decided to donate the produce to the townspeople. (AYB/CCP)
