ON JAN. 6, 2021, more than a hundred families were left homeless by a fire that broke out in the neighborhood of Tetuan Village along Cabato Road in Zamboanga City. The families were displaced and needed help regaining their lives.

Those who lost their homes were housed in a temporary shelter at Tetuan Central School. There were roughly 254 families and about1,400 individuals who were victims of the fire in Tetuan Village. Many lost their homes as well as hope, especially in the midst of the pandemic.
The ML Cares Foundation visited the shelter on Jan. 9. The activity was spearheaded by regional manager Jeremias Supilanas; area managers Joey Portuito, Rene Armada and Ramon Azuelo; and Opec president Jeorge Elcamel along with other Opec officers.
The group was able to distribute relief goods which included essentials such as hygiene kits, rice and groceries to the fire victims. They lent a helping hand and a listening ear to those who wanted comfort during this difficult time. M Lhuillier also made sure that government protocols such as proper social distancing and use of masks and face shields were still observed during the distribution of relief goods.
For the staff of M Lhuillier, sharing kindness and blessings to the fire victims was equal to sparking new hope for them to never surrender despite the difficulties they have faced.
