Pangan: Expecting the worse

VACCINE czar Carlito Galvez Jr. issued a warning that the public should brace for a probable peaking or surge of Covid-19 infections by June or July this year.

This does not seat well with the already much abused citizenry since much has been lost in their incomes and livelihood, not to mention deaths in the family.

He says: The pandemic is far from over. There is a wrong notion that the Covid-19 is already finished in some other countries. It can reappear anytime. Unfortunately for us, several variants from different country-sources have appeared and have made the battle for us harder and more difficult.

It is true that the government has started the mass inoculation program but the efficacy of the vaccines would be known from six to nine months after the start of the vaccination rollout. Hay!

In some parts of the country, MGCQ is the current classification imposed on them by the IATF.

Yet in Pampanga, the governor is trying hard to copy whatever the NCR bubble imposes on its constituents. He has been a copycat since the start of the pandemic. Sus!

The national authorities are befuddled and confused as to why we are back to square one in our battle against Covid-19. Could it be that we have too many cooks in the kitchen? As it is, we have czars in every imaginable aspect of the battle that is why we often have crossed lines. Whew!

In the US and other developed countries, there is only one conductor in the battle against the disease. We know of Dr. Anthony Fauci in whose shoulders lies the burden of orchestrating efforts to battle Covid-19.

It is entirely different here, especially in the IATF which oftentimes sends the wrong signals to the officials and health workers.

I hope the IATF does not engage in guesswork and instead relies on scientific data. The DOH figures for everyday are not accurate, I've observed since there are laboratories which submit their data too late, so the tabulation is erratic!

The so-called herd immunity is too far to reach, given the present surge and the various variants. Now, we have to learn to live with this virus until, by some miracle, it disappears completely.

In his column, Demand and Supply in the Philippine Star, columnist Boo Chanco wrote: Our worst problem today is the absence of a credible person to look up to for guidance. In the US, even when Trump was at his worst behavior, they had a Dr. Anthony Fauci to turn to for the real score based on science.

Unfortunately for us, we do not have a man of science with Fauci's caliber to help us sort out the facts behind this pandemic. The only doctor on our government's COVID response team is the Health Secretary. Unfortunately, he is more of a politician than a physician!

I have seen it with my own eyes in my visit to Sapang Biabas last weekend.

There exists an open dump site at Sitio Makabakle, Sapang Biabas, near sitio Maluyus, Barangay Bical.

The City Environment and Natural Resources (Cenro) should look into this dumpsite as the residents therein are complaining about its foul smell and stench and may be injurious to the residents' health and for violations of the provisions of Solid Waste management laws and the Clean Air Act.

Paging the Sapang Biabas chairman, a certain Ms. Cabuang. Please visit the site, madam, and do something fast, yes, fast!
