THE 98 job order employees assigned at the Cebu City Quarantine Center (CCQC) and the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) who have not been paid for four months will receive their salaries next week.
City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. said the documents for the payment of nurses and medical technologists who have job order employment status reached his table on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
The total budget for the salaries of the job order employees reached P4.3 million.
Starting on May 3, Casas said, salaries for the medical workers will be released.
Casas said there was a delay in the releasing of the salaries since the budget for the salaries was not included in the annual budget for 2021.
He said the job order employees were hired in January this year when Covid-19 cases of Cebu City started to increase again.
The budget for the salaries of the nurses and medical technologists was approved by the Cebu City Council in the third week of March.
The salaries of the job order employees will be charged under the budget allocated to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
Another reason for the delay was the long process the budget had to go through.
Casas said in preparing a budget for the salaries of the job order employees, a budget proposal had to be made. The proposal, afterwards, needed approval from the CDRRMC. The CDRRMC then issued a resolution and submitted it to the Cebu City Council. And the City Council approved the budget.
Casas said the City now targets to release the salaries monthly.
The city administrator asked for understanding for the delay, saying the City follows a process.
Now that the Covid-19 situation in Cebu City is improving, Casas said they will continue the contracts of the job order employees and tap them to help with the City’s vaccination program.
Cebu City had 850 active Covid-19 cases on April 30. (JJL)
