THE Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, May 1, 2021, reported over 9,000 new coronavirus infections and 120 additional mortalities, both the highest in the last seven days.
In its case bulletin, the DOH confirmed 9,226 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the highest since the 9,661 on April 24.
These brought the cumulative case count in the country to 1,046,653.
The 120 additional deaths, also the highest since the 145 on April 24, raised the death toll from Covid-19 to 17,354.
The case fatality rate remained at 1.66 percent.
There were 10,809 recoveries under the DOH’s time-based tagging scheme which declares mild and asymptomatic cases case symptoms in at least 10 consecutive days as recoveries.
These brought the total recoveries to 957,051, or 91.4 perent of the cumulative Covid-19 caseload in the Philippines.
Active cases went down slightly to 72,248 as recoveries exceeded new infections. The active cases accounted for 6.9 percent of the total.
The daily positivity rate remained below 20 percent at 16.8 percent of the 51,598 samples tested on April 29. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
