CHMSC holds first-ever virtual Earth Jam 2021

CARLOS Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) held its first-ever virtual Earth Jam, a collaboration of the Center for External Affairs, Greening CHMSC Task Force, Office for Student Affairs and Services, and Federation of Student Government, to culminate the celebration of Earth Month on Friday, April 30, 2021, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. via Facebook Live.

Earth Jam was a variety of music and dance performances from students, faculty, alumni, and guests in honor of Mother Earth.

The program opened with a song performed by the group of Noy Pillora, a member of the popular national folk band, Asin. It was followed by a welcome message from Rhoderick K. Samonte, Chair of the Greening CHMSC Task Force and Director for External Affairs.

In his message, Samonte emphasized that everyone possesses the knowledge, skills, and talent to restore our Earth, if only we use them rightly and wisely.

The hosts gave a brief review on how and when the Greening CHMSC started and what it meant for the institution today.

Out of 66 entries in the Restoring the Earth begins at Home Vlog Contest, 26 entries were qualified for final judging after being carefully reviewed and screened.

The entry that conquered the first place and received a brand new Realme C12 mobile phone was from Jana Escamos from the College of Industrial Technology, followed by Ma. Therese Elizario placing second, and Ma. Therese Tepino, third place.

Eleven teams participated in "This is our World Music Video Contest."

The group of the Student Society of Physical Education Majors (SSPEM) of Talisay Campus won the first prize.

The Team Bugana from Alijis Campus got second place and the CWTS-Faith of NSTP group ranked as third place.

All prizes were provided by Asian Alcohol Corporation, Café Bobs, Merzci Bacolod Best Pasalubong, Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, and Peacepond Farmers Association.

The event ended with words of gratitude given by Dr. Janet P. Espinosa, Director for Students Affairs and Services, and a community song from Joey Ayala's Karaniwang Tao led by Mel Stephen Amacan.
