THE two major local political parties in Negros Occidental are having a meeting with the mayors this month to discuss and avoid a clash among its members in the coming May 2022 elections.
Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Secretary General of Unega, said Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson who is the coalition chairman would like to discuss the matter soon to avoid the 2019 election scenario from happening in the coming election.
While they were having a coalition and agreement at the upper level, some mayors who were members of the coalition clashed in that election.
Escalante also clarified that he has not heard yet about reports that Board Member David Albert Lacson (Third District) may run against incumbent Third District Congressman Jose Francisco Benitez.
Toboso Mayor Richard Jaojoco (Unega) may also run for congressman in the First District against incumbent Representative Gerardo Valmayor.
"This is the first time I heard about it," Escalante said, though he confirmed that Jaojoco's wife Madonna will be running for mayor of Toboso in the 2022 elections.
He also confirmed that Isabela Mayor Irene Montilla (Love-Negros) will be challenged by Vice Mayor Renato "JR" Malabor (Unega) in the coming election.
He said they have not discussed seriously about politics yet.
