Eastern Visayas logs 21 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death

EASTERN Visayas recorded on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, 21 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and one death amid fluctuating trend in the number of infections in the region.

In a bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas also reported 43 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 17,465 (95.74 percent).

As of Tuesday, May 4, the region’s total number of Covid-19 cases is at 18,243 and total deaths at 279 (1.53 percent).

The 21 new cases were recorded out of 356 laboratory samples tested at the Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center and Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory.

According to the health department, the new number of cases represents an 8.47 percent positivity rate.

The 21 new confirmed cases are from Tacloban City (3), Carigara (1), Mahaplag (7), Palo (1), Tanauan (2), Tolosa (1), Maasin City (1), San Antonio (1), Calbayog City (3) and Tarangnan (1).

Meanwhile, the latest Covid-19 fatality was identified as patient EV-17848, a 74-year-old female from Burauen, Leyte, who died on May 2.
