Zamboanga banks shorten banking hours

THE Zamboanga City Bankers and Financiers Association Inc. (ZCBFAI), through a resolution, has shortened the banking hours of its member banks due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

ZCBFAI president Inocente Locson said the banking hours have been shortened to four hours daily from the usual six to eight banking hours a day effective Monday, May 3, to protect the employees against Covid-19.

The ZCBFAI has 76 banks and financing institutions as members.

Locson said that since March 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic was declared, there were about 14 member-banks whose employees tested positive for the virus.

Locson said there were seven member-banks, with employees afflicted with Covid-19, that were placed on lockdown effective Monday, May 3.

"Therefore, in the interest of the safety of the Officers and Staff of all Member-Banks, this resolution (04-2021) of the Zamboanga City Bankers and Financiers Association Inc. is hereby resolved that the member-banks of the association will observe shortened banking hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. effective May 3, 2021," the ZCBFAI said in its resolution approved on Friday, April 30.

Locson said they have to adopt such measure to protect the bank employees since they deal with a number of people daily. (SunStar Zamboanga)
