THE recent spike in the number new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Cagayan de Oro has been blamed on non-essential gatherings and traveling to areas outside of the city.
According to City epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya, they have recorded 105 Covid-positive individuals who have history of travel to areas outside of Cagayan de Oro in the month of April. These individuals developed symptoms of Covid-19 after they came back to the city.
As of May 6, the City Health Office logged 35 Covid-positive individuals who have history of travel to areas outside Cagayan de Oro.
Retuya said this is more than one-third of the recorded cases in April.
In April 2021, there are 23 Covid-19 cases with history of attending birthday parties and eight Covid-positive individuals who attended workplace- and family-related gatherings.
"Bulan sa Mayo, naa tay 13 or sobra sa tunga ang dunay giapilan nga mga birthday celebrations," Retuya said, adding that four Covid-positive individuals attended workplace- and family-related gatherings as of May 6.
