THE Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution extending the City’s sincerest gratitude to the kindness of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio for donating a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machine and 20 sampling kits to the City of Bacolod.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on health.

On May 4, the city officials led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran with Councilors Rojas and Renecito Novero, City Administrator Em Ang and former city councilor Roberto Rojas received the RT-PCR machine and 20 sampling kits at the Bacolod-Slay Airport.

Rojas said through this kindness and generosity of Duterte-Carpio, Bacolod City was given the chance to strengthen its capacity to test its citizens to detect possible infection and deter the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

She said according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the current incubation period of Covid-19 ranges from 1 to 12.5 days.

“These estimates can change as new information is being shared with the Department of Health (DOH). Based on what we know about other coronavirus diseases, such as Mers and Sars, their incubation period reaches up to 14 days. With Covid-19, WHO recommends to monitor contacts of confirmed cases for 14 days,” she added.

Rojas stressed that early detection through an RT-PCR machine is very vital to ensure that the patient will receive medical treatment as early as possible, at the same time, testing is the best deterrent to the spread of Covid-19 to the population.

As of May 6, Bacolod City had a total of 7,881 Covid-19 cases. Of the number, 6,682 patients already recovered, 980 were active cases and 219 were deaths.
