Comelec urges registrants to follow health protocols

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City urged registrants to follow health protocols outside the Comelec office in the city.

This, after several registrants were queuing outside the Comelec office since last week to register for the May 2022 elections.

Bacolod City election registrar Katrina Trinio-Cana said they can only accommodate about 100 applicants daily for new, reactivation and transfer registrations in the city.

“They should observe the health protocols like the wearing of face masks, face shield and to observe the social distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19),” she said.

She added that those who will not be included in the cut-off should go home and return the following day.

Trinio-Cana noted the Comelec wants to avoid overcrowding outside the Comelec office since Bacolod City is still under modified general community quarantine.

After the Comelec’s scheduled voter’s registration, Comelec will hold an Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing on July 19.

Trinio-Cana said all the applications for registration and other voter-related applications are not automatically approved. These applications have to be evaluated

She said the ERB is composed of the city election officer, city registrar, and the Department of Education.

Would-be registrants should bring a valid government identification card (ID) with picture and signature, original and photocopy of their birth certificates. If their residence is not stated on the ID, they could bring proof of their residents or billing statements like water or electric bills.

Those who will apply for correction of entries like single to married should bring the original copy of their marriage certificate with a photocopy for authentication purposes.

After the hearing, Comelec will review their records to determine the deceased voters and those who transferred residence.
